Wow, first cc post in a while
This week, I got to t/alk to Sam. I had totally forgotten that I had talked to her previously (not for a cc but just about zines and sushi). That’s unrelated but oh well.
The question I chose to ask was “would you be supportive of your child wanting to pursue an art career? Why or why not?” Without even hearing the full question, Sam answered with a stern “yes.”
She elaborated that she personally loves art and that it runs in the family. She also claims to be extremely self-critical on her own art skills, but she will do her best so that her child[ren] will not “turn out like her” and she will unconditionally support and encourage them. Sam also said that she will always try to help them to improve constantly.
After this, I then asked a follow up question: “What if they’re struggling with their art career?”
She said that this was a hard question, but ultimately she stated that she would tell her child[ren] to find a separate job and to continue trying their art career. However, if their art career is really not working out, then she would [with much difficulty] tell them to quit this profession and find another one, but continue art as a hobby instead.
That was about all I got to talk to her about since the garden was past closing time and we had to get outta there.
